WIP
I am working on a couple of drawings. After working a bit more with the composition and detailing both, my goal is to paint them with grey values with what I’ve learned about lighting till now.
The cliff building is still missing something in my opinion, but I have an idea that will hopefully fix it. If not, I will go through this list of things related to composition: Rhythm, emphasis, variety, economy, repetition, balance, continuity and unity. This list is a nice guideline to get you to think about how to improve your painting. Check out this first video for some good tips: https://vimeo.com/channels/668662/page:1
Still a lot to do on the jetpack raptor, but the idea is almost down. Going to sketch a bit more.
Composition
Currently doing a bit more detailed drawing, taking quite some time.
Meanwhile a few things about composition. It is important to find a good composition early. Just using simple shapes trying out different things is a good way to experiment. Also doing many short composition studies of old masters with just 3-4 grey values is good to discover tricks that has been proved to work well. I plan to do many of these. A book recommended on the subject from a lot of people: “Framed Ink: Drawing and Composition for Visual Storytellers”. I have not bought it yet, but I will in the near future.
