Purpose, Perspective sketches

Let’s try to make this place a little bit more interesting! While just posting drawings is fine, I thought that writing about why I do them and what the purpose is will give this place a little more life.

I have decided I am going to become a concept artist or illustrator. Probably a concept artist. I realized this earlier this summer when I started to practice drawing more intensely and discovered I really love it!

How can I reach this goal? First I have to become very good at drawing and painting. Secondly, I have to be noticed either by clients with projects I can work on, or by people who want to buy what I do directly. Preferably a combination!

I guess my current work is not the worst ever, but still there is not a lot of it and I have a long way to “professional” level in my opinion. Therefore, I am going to practice a lot. Every day. For a very long time.

So how to be noticed? From what I have read, watched and listened to: create fantastic work and help people. Both are maybe obvious, but how to actually get there and doing it is not. However, I will try, by recording my path towards this goal here. I will write about the information I have gathered and find relevant, and post my studies. Formulating my thoughts precisely here will force me to think more thoroughly through what I do, which will hopefully help me learn better. I admit it is mostly for my own gain, at least initially, but if somebody discovers this place maybe they can learn something from my experiences too!

Most of what I write will summarize what I remember from the countless videos and podcasts I listen to while drawing, or something I read. Therefore, something I take for granted might be missing. Feel free to ask about anything, I will be glad to try to answer!

Today I learned how to mirror curves in perspective, here are some sketches I did:
